Case study 01

Growth of a cryptocurrency service after publisher placements.

An anonymised cryptocurrency-service project in a competitive market. The observation window is still short, so we continue to monitor the campaign.

Campaign overview

We placed 10 homepage links on sites in our publisher network. A small amount of community outreach was added gradually, with further placements closer to late December.

The red line on the chart marks the homepage-placement date. Traffic and keyword-position data are from Ahrefs.

Case study 02

Publisher placements for a gaming store.

An anonymised gaming-industry store targeting the USA and EU.

Campaign overview

Six publisher sites were used, with links placed from both homepages and internal pages. The campaign combined strength levels 1, 2 and 3, with a total budget of $750.

The red line marks the placement date: 24 September 2024. The “a” marker is Ahrefs’ newer AI Overview SERP feature, which appears above organic results. No material effect from that marker is evident in this view.

Case study 03

Organic-traffic growth for an internet service with ongoing publisher placements.

An anonymised internet-service project with most traffic coming from Tier 1 markets: the US (74%), UK, Canada, Australia and Germany.

Campaign overview

Since January, we have placed 60 contextual article links from internal pages across our publisher network, at a pace of 10 sites per month. Most placements used strength level 1, supplemented with levels 2 and 3.

Ahrefs’ estimated Google organic traffic increased from approximately 17,000 to 95,000 monthly visits during the period shown — a 458% increase. The red line marks the first placement date.

Ahrefs refreshed its keyword database in June and July, so part of the reported traffic change may reflect updated measurement. The project also had previous outreach and limited supporting activity; this chart does not isolate the effect of any single tactic.
